At just 28, Ryan Lewinson has already one PhD in biomedical engineering from UCalgary, and is now back in the stacks studying medicine at Cumming School of Medicine.
While still a student, he discovered that a bent-shaft shovel reduces mechanical loads on the lower back. In another study, he developed a method for predicting the type of footwear a person needs to reduce loading in the knee — plus, he formed a company, GlacierRx, with epidemiologist and medical student Isabelle Vallerand.
The busy duo now uses their expertise to help industry, academia and governments develop and test new products, technologies and workflow systems.
